Путешествия и еда — два столпа, на которых держится весь инстаграм и аккаунт @girleatworld в частности. Автор одноимённого блога Мелисса Хай говорит, что не сразу стала заядлой путешественницей: она отправилась в путь только в 2009 году. Тогда она закончила учёбу и переехала в Сингапур. В 2013 году она впервые поехала в Европу в одиночку. «Я не хотела просить незнакомых людей фотографировать меня и не очень люблю селфи, но в поездках я всегда ем, так что я фотографировала еду рядом со всеми достопримечательностями, где бывала», — рассказывает она. Так и начался блог Girl Eat World и одноимённый инстаграм-аккаунт.

За это время Мелисса посетила более тридцати стран. В её аккаунте можно найти снимки из Индонезии, США, Японии, Австралии и не только. Девушка не просто фотографирует еду, но и рассказывает о ней (объясняет, в чём прелесть австралийского печенья Tim Tam, делится историей о яичных тартах из знаменитой пекарни в Сингапуре и восхищается оливками, которые попробовала рядом с Иорданом). Она также поясняет, у какой достопримечательности был сделан снимок, и делится советами с путешественниками. В инстаграме можно найти не только снимки самой Мелиссы, но и фотографии её подписчиков и друзей — так что блог обновляется вне зависимости от того, отправилась девушка в поездку или нет.

The cuuuutest handmade cat donut from Floresta Nature Donuts @floresta_nature_doughnuts at Shin Kyogoku 新京極 Market in Kyoto. These are called Doubutsu Donut どうぶつドーナツ or "Animal Donut". I have wanted one since I saw them on instagram awhile back! These animal donuts became a sensation about 4 years ago, created by Floresta in Nara. Due to the massive success of the animal donuts, they now have branches all over Kansai region (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, etc)! There are many different animal designs, but this cat donut is one of their original designs. The donuts are all cake-based and the ears are made of almonds. So adorable! Kumamon is a bear and the mascot of Kumamoto prefecture. You can see tons of him in as soon as you get to Kumamoto! We rented a car and drove up route 339 to a lookout point called Daikanbo, which gives you and impressive view of Mount Aso and the valley beneath it. Kumamoto is so beautiful! It was the highlight of my trip to Japan this time :)

The most perfect green tea ice cream with matcha powder at the perfect location - The alleys of Gion in Kyoto. Kyoto was the capital of Japan in Heian period from 8th century to 19th century. Nowadays it is filled with cute shops and cafes, while the exterior is preserved to look like old Japan! It feels like you are transported back in time when you are walking around this area, and it's common to see people dressed in Kimono or Geisha costumes. If you are lucky, you may even spot a true Geisha. In the background my friend @op.118 is patiently waiting for me while I compose my shot #ShotoniPhone6sPlus #IceCreamKing

Manakish in a small village between Jordan and As-Salt. Manakish is flatbread topped with various ingredients such as eggs, minced meat, cheese and za'atar. Sounds like a certain food we all know and love... Yep, I call this the Arabic Pizza! Manakish or Man'ousheh is typically eaten for breakfast in many Levantine countries such as Jordan. My favorite is this white cheese and za'atar one! The white cheese has the consistency similar to haloumi, but much milder taste. Most of the taste of the manakish came from the Zaatar instead, a very important herb in Jordan. #VisitJordan #ShareYourJordan #ShotOniPhone6Plus

Sakura mochi at Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. This Kansai-style sakura mochi is made of mochi rice formed into a ball with azuki (red bean) paste inside and wrapped in picked sakura leaf. In Tokyo, you would find the red bean paste wrapped in thin pink crepe instead of rice. This sweet snack is traditionally eaten during Hanami (sakura flower viewing in April) or Hinamatsuri (Girl's day in March), welcoming the beginning of spring. The leaf is edible too! Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is a super cool sight to visit in Kyoto. As soon as you step into the forest, you can immediately feel the drop of temperature. A little clementine at Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon I know it's crazy, but it is now the last five days of 2015 (!!) I will be posting once a day until December 31st, five of my favorite #GirlEatWorld stories from 2015... Starting with this one from the Myanmar trip I took in January with @sceetheworld. Why clementine? I was pretty much obsessed with this fruit throughout the trip. They are easy to peel, so sweet and seedless, goes for $1 for half a dozen and there seem to be no shortage of them in each burmese city we visited. It became my go-to snack! Shwedagon Pagoda is believed to be constructed 2,600 years ago and contains relics of four Buddhas. In the modern day, it has become an important political arena for the burmese people. In 1946, it is where General Aung San demanded independence from the British before he was assasinated a year later. In the same place 42 years later, his daughter Aung San Suu Kyi would address half a million crowd to demand democracy from the military regime. The most important thing to remember when visiting this place? Take your shoes AND socks off. You have to go barefoot! ;)

🍵 Nai huang bao (Egg custard bun) at Causeway Bay in Hong Kong - this was part of dimsum! Dimsum is like cantonese tapas - tons of small delicious dishes served with a pot of pu'er tea, usually to be had with group of family and friends. One of the interesting eating tradition I learned in Hong Kong is you have to wash your utensils and plates with hot water / first brew of the tea to sterilize them! 3. It's getting really tough to narrow down my top picks! Salt Beef Bagel with mustard from Beigel Bake at Brick Lane, East London - My favorite neighborhood :) this picture make me salivate each time i see it. That bagel is just tooooo good! Visit Brick lane on a weekend and you won't be disappointed!

Taiyaki at the famous Fushimi Inari from the market right outside the temple! This is my last post from the Kyoto trip, but fear not - I'm coming back to Japan with @cheapticketssg in September! Stay tuned for more Japan pics as I will be taking over their instagram too. This time I will be exploring southern area: Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Kagoshima. If you have any recommendations, please comment below on what I should eat. Can't wait! --- Taiyaki is one of my favorite snacks from Japan. It's a fish-shaped cake filled with red bean paste, commonly found around Japan especially in the food stalls at a festival. Despite the shape, it doesn't actually contain fish. Seeing the red torii (gates) at Fushimi Inari was one of my bucketlists! I'm very glad to finally have this one checked off #cheapticketssg #visitjapan
