Американская художница тайваньского происхождения Джон Юйи обвинила российскую версию Glamour в плагиате. Причиной стала обложка июньского выпуска, на которой лицо и руки визажистки Елены Крыгиной украшены переводными татуировками с логотипами известных брендов. По словам Юйи, издание скопировало её стиль работы без разрешения. Узнав об этом, она связалась с Glamour в инстаграме — представители издания в ответ написали, что хотели отдать дань её творчеству, и прислали письмо главного редактора, в котором говорится, что обложка «вдохновлена работами Джон Юйи».

Тем не менее художница возмущена, что никаких ссылок на её работы (кроме письма главреда) в самом журнале нет — кроме того, редакторы не сообщили ей о съёмке заранее.

В ответ на обвинения главный редактор журнала Иляна Эрднеева выложила пост, в котором заявила, что «находится на связи с художницей» — однако Юйи утверждает, что её последние сообщения остались без ответа.

Это уже не первый случай, связанный с обвинениями в плагиате в модной индустрии. Понять, где проходит граница между оммажем и воровством, довольно сложно. Наши рассуждения на эту тему — в прошлогоднем материале. 

Please swipe. I have been very tired lately. May 15th morning, I received a inbox of @glamour_russia latest cover. There is no caption or any credit about me in the post. This is not the first time big company ripped off by directly use or “tribute” me without any inform before and respect. I've been working so hard and cherished my work all the time. I hope to make good stuffs and try to make myself satisfied. In the past, I didn't want to effect my emotion, so I didn’t call them out. And those companies were sincerely apologized. Make promise that this kind of thing is not going to happen again. I think I still hope that I can continue to believe in respectful relationships between people. However, this Glamour Russia magazine cover thing. It really made me very, very disappointed. I feel sad. I feel down. Why would this happen? I started to question about why I’ve being so hardworking all the time? Why do I put so much effort? Moved to New York to live in such a small place on my own. Why being so diligent in life to make more works? I was not too depressed at the beginning. Still believed they will deal with sincerity. But what I received was just a very perfunctory reply trying to get away of responsibility. After people started to comment on their Instagram.They posted on Instagram “Please know we are in touch with johnyuyi". I still believed that they finally aware of the seriousness of this matter. So I’ve been waiting for them to reply to me. But it has been 6 days. There is no reply from them or @glamourmag. Only the “seem” from them showed up in the inbox. Compare them with me. I face all the things in my life and work. I worked step by step to have a little achievement today. They are a big international company with a lot of resources. I felt my 5 years hard work was robbed. All I hope is they can face this matter seriously. Hope not to happen to other people like me. If you guys are willing to help me Can you suggest me what should I do? Or ask them to contact me? Or comment on their ig? I hate to do this. But all I can do is waiting. I really feel powerless and helpless.
