Американский художник Брэд Троемел обвинил дизайнера Вику Газинскую в неправомерном копировании его работ при создании коллекции весна-лето — 2018. По его словам, в своих принтах Газинская использовала картины из серии «Freecatching» — для неё художник фотографировал свои работы, а затем прятал их в Центральном парке в Нью-Йорке. Картины в данном случае играли роль карты — на каждой из них были координаты тайника. Троемел заметил, что принты Газинской полностью повторяют его картины, даже цветные блоки расположены в том же порядке. «Самое забавное — работы, которые она использовала, являются частью серии, посвящённой финансовым трудностям художника в Нью-Йорке. Я потерял свою студию, и мне пришлось закапывать свои работы в Центральном парке, который стал для меня заменой склада», — написал Троемел в своём инстаграме.

Дизайнер факта копирования отрицать не стала — в одном из комментариев она написала, что «вдохновлялась» творчеством Троемела и что она может «использовать предметы искусства в своей работе столько, сколько захочет». Адвокат дизайнера Элеанор Лакман рассказала The Blueprint, что художник сам вдохновлялся уже существующими работами и не имеет права обвинять кого-то в плагиате, так как он рассказывал в своих интервью, что нелегально скачивал музыку и заказывал китайские контрафактные товары через интернет.

@vikagazinskaya @vikagazinskaya_moscow @voguemagazine @amyverner is not "inspiration" this is theft, pure and simple. If my work was an inspiration as you say, you probably would've mentioned me as an inspiration when asked what influenced your line in Vogue. Instead, you covered it up, thinking your world was so large and mine so small that you could get away with ripping me off without anyone noticing. You are an international fashion brand selling goods that are direct copies of my work for thousands of dollars. I'm a working artist trying to figure out how to pay my rent next month. This is not a horizontal relationship of influence. Ironically, the work you copied came from an exhibition about the financial difficulty of being an artist in NY, to the extent that I lost my studio and buried all of my art in Central Park as a makeshift storage unit-- but you probably already know this considering how well acquainted you are with the series lol

Just when you thought it couldn't get any more wild: today @vikagazinskaya sent *me* a cease and desist. 😂😂 Where do you begin with this hilarious, tragic, rich person temper tantrum scare tactic of an e-mail? You can't defame someone by Instagramming a fact. It's not my opinion Vika copied my work, she publicly admitted it. The straw man argument "but Brad, you appropriate things in your work! you even downloaded an entire Sevendust album off Kazaa when you were 11 years old and didn't pay for it! why can't Vika take your creative labor as her own Kazaa Sevendust album?" is a bad one and deserves to be cleared up. The strength of appropriation as an artistic strategy is based on its acknowledgement of source material. To re-contextualize meaning requires -for the viewer and maker- acknowledging what the context was in the first place and how the source has been newly approached since. Jeff Koons isn't claiming to have *invented* Hoover vacuums and sell them in Walmart with the brand name crudely scratched off the side. In conclusion (lol), Vika, this is silly. You and your staff of lawyers were so worked up blocking online bullies all night you didn't even spell my name correctly in your letter. The world doesn't need more frivolous legal defenses or stolen fashion lines but some people do need protection and clothes so why not donate the money you would've spent suing me and the money you'll end up making from my work on your dresses to a good charity? How does the American Refuge Committee sound? Charitywatch.org gives them an A+. Whadya say? Besides, I just want to get back to doing aderall and making product memes, i'm getting too old to maintain internet beefs 😫👴🏻
